Update: I'm changing my rating from 3 stars to 4. Felipe was very communicative and helpful and Justin did finally get us our lists from the trip. Again, I want to stress, Justin is a phenomenal birder and got us the birds we wanted. It was only the follow through with the bird lists that was a problem. One month past our trip and we still don’t have all of our checklists. We hired Justin for two days of birding in the Texas Hill country. Justin is an experienced and very knowledgeable birder. He got us on our target birds which was great. Very nice young man but not much engagement during our time together. The problem really began after we returned home. It took Justin over two weeks to share only some of our ebird checklists. Still one month later and we don’t have all the checklists. I had asked him at the beginning if he was going to keep our lists or if I should do my own. He told me he would take care of it. I deeply regret not doing it myself as I’m missing lists with lifers on them. What was a wonderful experience is greatly marred by this frustration of not getting the checklists. So if you hire Justin, I highly recommend keeping your own checklists!
I had a very good trip with Texas Bird Guides! Justin was able to take me up the Pinnacles Trail and connect with Colima Warbler! He was enthusiastic and ready to spend all of the time needed for me to get great looks at the bird.
I recently booked a guide for two days at Big Bend to see the Colima Warbler. I've used many guide services and I have to say that David is easily among the top guides I've ever had. He was timely, professional, knowledgeable, and personable. I had a amazing time and checked off most of the birds I wanted to see (in excess of 100 species). I highly recommend Texas Birding Guides and intend to use them again.
Nick was very knowledgeable with an incredible ear. He really put in extra effort.
I recently birded Upper Texas Coast, Lower RGV, and Big Bend/Davis Mountains areas with three different guides from TBG. All three guides were great, and I saw so many fantastic birds in all three places. My interest is largely in bird photography, and in each place the guides (Justin, Nolan, and David) were able to find almost all the birds I had targeted and get me in good positions for photos. Most of my targets were challenging birds, so this was no small feat and quite impressive. They were very knowledgable and professional. I highly recommend TBG for a great experience birding in Texas! Thanks for a very enjoyable experience!!
I’ve used these guys three times this year with 3 different guides and had good experiences every time. Always finding new species.
We had an amazing birding adventure with TX Birding Guides and our awesome guide Nolan Walker. We spent 3 days along the South Rio Grande and South Padre Island in mid April. We also included an evening owling. Nolan managed the trip perfectly. We were able to see many lifers as well as some favorites. Nolan’s knowledge of the area, habitat, bird behavior and identification via sight and sound made this trip fabulous. Thanks Nolan! We are already looking forward to another trip.
I spent a terrific few days birding with Nolan Walker. He is one of the best birders I have ever met and put me on a number of awesome birds. Additionally, he is a really nice person and genuinely loves birds. He never made me feel it was all about the targets - we took time to really appreciate all the amazing Texas birds we found. I have birded before with Arizona Birding Guides and have always had a great experience. I would recommend them to anyone.
Our experience was excellent. Felipe was quick to respond and always available to answer questions and our guide James was really excellent. James was hugely knowledgable, showed us a really wide range of the diversity on offer, and when we found the birding a little slow on our second day came up with an excellent plan to move locations which really saved the day. Highly recommended.
Nick is as great! Extremely pleasant and knowledgeable. Found four lifers for me. Hard to do after 50 years of birding
I have a strong interest in shorebirds, and contacted Texas Birding Guides about exploring the Galveston area. Jim Collins was absolutely outstanding! He planned the trip in meticulous detail, doing extensive research about sightings before my arrival. He even scouted some sites ahead of time. I had two days to cover as much ground as possible, and thanks to Jim’s efforts, we made the best use of my limited time. He went out of his way to find my target birds and we got almost all of them. In all, I had a fantastic time, and he got me some amazing life birds. It was such a pleasure to spend time with Jim. Not only is he an excellent birder who taught me a lot, he is also thoughtful and empathetic. I am so grateful to him for the wonderful experience. (Appended is a photo of an upland sandpiper Jim found for us!)
Nolan was a friendly and knowledgeable bird guide. We had a lovely visit.
Nolan was an exceptional guide for us for 3 days in the Lower Rio Grande Valley. Not only did he show us the local birds special to this area of Texas, but we were thrilled at the number of rarities he got us on. Nolan is extremely knowledgeable about bird ID - sight & sound, behavior and knows the key locations & rarity species in this area. We would definitely use Nolan & Texas Birding Guides on our next trip to Texas.
Excellent and prompt communication at the start when setting up our morning guided birding excursion with Texas Birding Guides. From there, things continued with the same excellence. Our guide, Nolan, had previewed our wish list of birds, scouted out the areas so when we met with him for our morning of guided birding, all went smoothly, and thus we were very successful! Nolan is very knowledgeable and good about passing along information about each species plus answering our questions. Excellent guide, excellent experience.
Nolan did a great job helping our group of five on a one day Target List of birds. We visited several locations with ease. His knowledge of birds, bird calls, and hot spot locations was key in our success.
My wife and I birded the Rio Grande Valley with Justin Bosler of Texas Birding Guides on Jan 2-4, 2024. We were very satisfied with Justin. He was always accommodating to our needs and has excellent birding skills. We are experienced birders and wanted a guide to help us find some of our more difficult target birds. Justin was a big help. We would certainly have had less success without him. And with him we essentially got all the birds we targeted! For example, he was able to locate the rare Crimson-collared Grosbeak in a thicket at Frontera Audubon on a cloudy and windy morning, when the bird was not very active. He was able to get us on it for good looks. He also picked out some of the rarer parrots, such as the Lilac-crowned, in a massive flock in fading light. His eBird checklists are meticulous, with detailed explanations identifying the rare birds. He is a nice guy too. We had a good time birding with him. Texas Birding Guides is a new effort of Arizona Birding Tours, led by Felipe Guerrero of Patagonia, AZ. We live in Southeast AZ and know Felipe well. We would definitely recommend him and his other guides for tours in AZ and Mexico too. They all have great expertise in these areas. We know many of his other guides and they are all among the best birders we have ever seen, and nice, friendly people. Several of Felipe's best guides are now working in South Texas, so Justin is not the only excellent guide Felipe can provide there.
I had a great experience with Nolan Walker from Texas Birding Guides. He helped me get several life birds the last 2 days and I still can’t believe we saw a Rose-throated Becard! His local knowledge was critical. You can’t go wrong with these folks. I highly recommend them.
i went birding with Nolan in Arizona back in October, and he mentioned he would be spending some time in south Texas. i specifically looked him up when i was on a business trip in the area in early December. amazingly, he seems to also be very much plugged into the local birding community (already) and we saw a couple rarities that had just appeared, along with a few other life birds for me.Nolan is is very knowledgeable and patient, and I really enjoyed birding with him again.
we had a spectacular time with Nolan. we hit all our main species, saw a ton of lifers and had a very productive time. Nolan was patient and flexible and adapted plans to the situation. he was very aware of the birds and the habitats, and planned out the itinerary perfectly. since he birds daily that area, he was very aware of where to find the birds. he also has amazing ears and eyes and was able to hear or spot a lot of birds that we would have definitely missed. he also found really good photographic opportunities, and we hit a number of different ecosystems. all in all, a great trip and we look forward to more birding trips with the Texas birding guides.
My wife and I just returned from our first Rio Grande Valley birding adventure. We hired Nolan Walker from the Texas Birding Guides for two days of professionally guided birding. We had previously birded with Nolan in AZ. Nolan has a tremendous ear for identifying bird calls/songs and his knowledge of the local birding hotspot, RGV specialties, and rare species is a great asset. We added 32 new Life Birds under Nolan's prompt, professional, peaceful, and pleasant guidance. Highly recommend Nolan and Texas/Arizona Birding Guides for your next birding adventure. We will definitely use them again in the future. I have added a few of our favorite photos/birds that Nolan helped us get.
Last week was my first trip to Texas and my guide Nolan was able to put me in locations to photograph 39 lifers; including a male Blue Bunting, Roadside Hawk, Golden-crowned Warbler, and a Tropical Parula. Nolan was incredibly knowledgeable and able to identify all birds by sound. I gave Nolan a list of targets ahead of my trip, and he was able to find almost all of them. If you’re looking for a guide in Texas, I recommend Texas Birding Guides. I will definitely use them again on any return trips!
Several members of my family recently spent two days birding Big Bend National Park with Texas Birding Guides. Our guide for the two days was Nolan Walker. He did a great job of finding birds and getting everyone on the birds. He worked hard and was a very likeable young man with excellent birding skills and exceptional hearing and sight. We would highly recommend Texas Birding Guides and Nolan Walker for a very enjoyable and productive birding experience.
Fantastic services! I'd recommend Kadynn and Nolan to anybody looking for professional and experienced guides.
Nolan and Kadynn are excellent birders who focus on assisting clients in seeing and hearing any birds encountered on an outing. They are also very knowledgeable about where to go to find targeted bird species on your “wish list”. In addition to their knowledge and professionalism, their upbeat, friendly manner makes for an enjoyable and fun productive experience. I highly recommend them.
Kadynn and Nolan are some of the best birding guides I know. Very knowledgeable of Texas birds and birds of the US in general, they always make sure that you get the most out of your experience!
Kadynn is a very knowledgeable guide, he knew when the birds were active and where to find them. Added some new birds to my lifelist and had a great time
Great birding companions and even better guides! On a trip with Kadynn, we saw all of my targets and so much more. Very knowledgeable about all things nature and you'll learn about everything from the local birds to secretive wildlife to the best places to eat. If you're looking for an awesome birding experience and loads of fun, these are the guides for you!
Would definitely recommend. Kadynn Hatfield and Nolan Walker are very knowledgeable birders and know the areas very well. Great experience.
For a truly memorable birding experience, Nolan Walker is the young man to contact. He is a phenomenal birder and is well-versed in birds of Texas and throughout the United States. Nolan is not only knowledgeable about birds, but he has an outstanding knowledge of geography, plants, and snakes. Punctual, dependable, and a young man of good character.
My husband and I have enjoyed our guided birding tours in Arizona. This year, we opted for something different. After two years in Southern Arizona, we wanted to bird in the Southern Rio Grande Valley in Texas. Felipe connected us with Nolan Walker who set up an amazing five day itinerary from Rio Grande City to South Padre Island and everywhere in between. We appreciated not only Nolan's excellent and young eyes and ears, but his wealth of knowledge about the birds in the area. He was great to be with over the five days and we saw so many birds. It was a very special experience. Now I am thinking about what to plan next year! Thank you, Nolan!
